Scholarship Submission - Sarah Bartsch
We’re so excited that right out the gate we can offer scholarships (aka free tickets!) to Camp Rover Conference 2024.
We’ll be sharing our scholarship submissions as they come in and are excited today to share with you Sarah of OnlyLocalMB.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
In 2020 I started a flower farm near Altona, MB. In 2022 I opened a storefront to sell my flowers and other locally made products, calling it Only Local by Bartsch Gardens. Initially I was going to have the flowers be strictly local and seasonal, but the demand for a second florist in Altona was so high that I have developed into a full service florist. I am self taught and do have a natural talent for floral design but I know I need to learn as much as I can!
Where can people find more of you?
www.onlylocalmb.ca, and @Onlylocalmb and Facebook.
What does creativity look like to you?
Oh wow. Creativity is such a broad concept! Creativity is the act of making anything new, but it is also anything we do to put our own spin on something that already exists. In my store I have 120 local makers represented and I just love seeing how each person puts their own spin on their chosen creative endeavor. Whether it is something totally unique like hand sculpted clay figures, or something repurposed like denim planters, I see the creativity of each person. Even when multiple makers use the same media and techniques, each one is still unique because each maker is unique and has their own personality and vision and style. I myself have explored many artistic and creative paths in my life and lok forward to lifelong exploration of creativity!
What are you currently working on?
I purchased a house last fall and I am working on redecorating the interior to my taste, and I am planning the landscaping and gardens where I will grow my cut flowers for the store. These days I don't make much time for drawing like I used to, but I am finding floral design to be quite a satisfying creative outlet.
What's one juicy nugget of knowledge you're itching to dive into—something you could use a bit of help unravelling and truly understanding?
I love learning and would explore almost any topic with keen interest! But, most beneficial to me right now would be business management and bookkeeping topics.
What draws you to Camp Rover Conference? What is it about community - this flock - that beguiles you?
It looks like an amazing community of creatives sharing knowledge passion to build each other up and cheer each other on, and that is very appealing.
Thanks Sarah for taking the time to share with us!
