Meet Kirsten - From our Advisory Board!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am a wedding videographer that chases feeling, emotion and nostalgia. More than anything I want each film I make to reflect the couple and their day. I love watching a wedding day unfold, capturing unique moments, and then weaving it all together through a creative edit!
What is your why? - Why do you create? What do you love about creating?
For as long as I can remember I have been creating - especially around the idea of story and storytelling. When I was younger, that meant putting on little shows for my family, then as I got older I got involved in theatre, and eventually channeled all of that into filmmaking. There is nothing more exciting than when a creative idea comes to life.
I think I'd be creating stories no matter what I was doing but it's such an honour to get to tell people's love stories. And since every wedding day and every couple is different it keeps me interested and having fun!
How did you get started?
It's kind of been a series of small steps that led me here. I jumped from a theatre degree to a filmmaking degree. Then jumped from freelancing and working as a videographer at a church into wedding filmmaking. Basically I've just moved towards what seemed fun to me and then kept going from there!
If you could give your 16-year-old self some advice what would it be?
Don't worry too much about a 5 or 10 year plan. Just make the best choices you an with what's in front of you.
Do you still get scared in your biz?
Of course! I love trying new things and stretching myself but its always a combination of terrifying and exciting to take the leap!
What is the one tech support you couldn't live without?
Hmmm that's a tough one - almost everything I do has to do with tech (cameras, computer programs etc). But I'd probably have to say getting a really fast computer has made a huge difference. Nothing worse than trying to edit a video and the computer starts lagging.
What is one management support you can't live without?
This may sound odd but my husband Braden is probably my biggest management support. I have a tendency get excited and take on too much, or set unrealistic goals for myself and never stop working. I'll tell him my goals and boundaries and he'll help keep me on track making sure I am taking days off and not working into all hours of the night.
How do you feed your creativity?
Getting out in nature for sure! Even just for a walk. That and taking in other art forms other than my own (theatre, music, dance etc.)
