Charity Spotlight - Reaching for Rainbows
Today we’d like to spotlight Reaching for Rainbows and their efforts in creating safe spaces for young girls to explore, grow and expand their creativity. This charity was selected by the ladies of The June Motel - one of our Camp Rover Conference 2024 Speakers.
If you didn’t already know, this is something we do with each speaker we bring on; we want to give back to causes that matter to the people that matter to us.
What does Reaching for Rainbows focus on in their efforts to serve the community?
“Reaching for Rainbows welcomes and embraces the little girls of this community who are most in need of a place to find friends, empower themselves and develop a sense of belonging.
Our warm and welcoming space is set up with thoughtfully selected materials and equipment to help spark curiosity and interest. This promotes an atmosphere where our girls can learn through play, while gently being guided by our skilled and passionate team of staff and volunteers.
Our girls are recommended to us through local schools and programs, Community Living and recommendations from within the community. “ - Reaching for Rainbows site
What is the biggest focus of Reaching for Rainbows?
“It’s not just the friendships between the girls that are important in the playroom. As the staff and volunteers enthusiastically join in the play and activities in the playroom, the girls learn to relax, venture into areas where they might have been hesitant and overcome hurdles that have kept them from participating fully. By watching others approach a problem or situation differently and successfully, they are able to envision other ways to do so themselves. Through this mentorship, they radiate friendship; empowering our girls, and helping to foster a deep sense of belonging.” - Program page, Reaching Rainbows website
