Meet Yemilo - From our Advisory Board!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I collaborate with passionate people to produce purposeful people-centred corporate events.
What is your why? - Why do you create? What do you love about creating?
I am passionate about human connection and social impact, so I create spaces that allow people to genuinely connect to produce impactful work. Corporate events often have a certain connotation that doesn't align with my desire for inclusive, purposeful and accessible experiences. So I work with like-minded people to take some beige off and add a little colour to corporate.
How did you get started?
After about seven years of navigating the corporate non-profit landscape, bouncing around from one event to the next, I landed a spot on the production team for a SHEday conference. As I sat there, surveying the organized chaos, about 2,000 attendees in front of me blissfully unaware of who made it all possible, it hit me: this was the sweet spot where my skill for organization and my skill for coming up with ideas faster than a squirrel on espresso could coexist. It took a few more years to gather the courage, but that was the moment I first saw myself in this role.
If you could give your 16-year-old self some advice what would it be?
Your journey is yours, and you can always change your mind.
Do you still get scared in your biz?
I am a first-generation immigrant and new business owner - fear is a constant. But, I show up every time.
What is the one tech support you couldn't live without?
Calendly - it saves me so much time!
What is one management support you can't live without?
It's not an item; for me, clearing my desk and returning the next day to find it clean is a ritual that helps me feel organized and ready to tackle the day.
How do you feed your creativity?
I don't actively seek to feed my creativity; it just happens. On a walk, observing the world around me. In the rhythmic subconscious tapping of my feet in response to music. I am a product of many experiences and cultures, and each contributing a unique perspective to how I perceive the world. My world is art. I don't feed it, it feeds me. The question is, what do I do with all this inspiration?
