Meet Event Light - Camp Rover Conference Sponsor
I’ve worked with Cam and his team at Event Light from the start of my (one) business - Amanda Douglas Events.
To get to “come up” with another company, team, and person, and to watch them grow, you grow, AND you keep getting to work together? It’s been one of my career event industry community highlights (shout out to JP Media Works for being one of our other “Started from the bottom” vendor friends).
So, of course, when it came to anything AV we knew Event Light was the team we wanted at Camp Rover Conference.
We trust them to get the job done, they go above and beyond and we’re so grateful for all their skills; and they’re just such lovely quality folks too.
Here’s a little more about Cam (owner and “the boss”) of Event Light through a little get-to-know our Sponsors interview.
What is the hardest part about what you do?
Aligning client expectations with reality, especially in a world of Instagram and Pinterest. Ie. When a client shows us examples of an event design they liked on Instagram, but that event had a $100,000 budget and you want it for $500.
What is the all-time dream part of your job? The thing you still pinch yourself that you get to do? And, tell the people how often you actually get to do it.
For me, it's more knowing where we started and where we are today. When you start in your parent’s garage, not knowing much and not owning much equipment, and now you are a relied-on company in the industry with people asking how you got here.
If you could tell your Day 1 starting-a-biz-self one thing what would it be?
Be confident in your plans, don't let others dictate how to run your own business, and take some deep breaths.
Someone wants to get into lighting, A/V and/or production. What advice - from an expert - would have saved you a lot of time, sweat, and tears?
Understand the value you bring to your clients, don't apologize for what you do well, and make sure you charge accordingly.
Fun fact about you or your biz?
We just celebrated our 10-year anniversary of being in business!
Fav book? Fav show? All your time go to movies while working?
My favourite show: is Brooklyn Nine-Nine and documentaries in general.
Closing thoughts for the Camp Rover Community?
Don't be afraid of your industry's community. Learn from other companies/competitors and work with people before you work against them.
